Cogent Legal began with a trip around the world. Attorney Morgan C. Smith left a successful San Francisco law firm he had co-founded to spend a year traveling with his family and re-evaluating his career direction. He decided to develop one aspect of his practice as a trial attorney that brings him great satisfaction and leverages his interest in design and technology: creating litigation graphics and providing strategic consultation to help attorneys make their best case possible. Morgan then assembled a team of specialists in animation, informational design, medical illustrations and courtroom technology. Cogent Legal opened its office near Jack London Square, Oakland, in early 2011 and has grown to six employees and numerous contract designers.
